Approximately 65% of your body is made up of water. The body cannot survive without it due to its importance in helping maintain body temperature, waste removal, joint lubrication and functioning of the brain, body cells and other organs. Everyday our body loses water through daily bodily functions such as breathing, sweating, urinating etc. Therefore, it’s important to keep your water levels up by ensuring you drink the recommended guidelines of approximately 2 litres of water a day (around 8 glasses).
When we exercise the body regulates its own temperature and uses water in the form of sweat to keep the body cool. To ensure we keep your body topped up with the amount of water it needs during and after exercise we need to replace what has been lost. Ensure you carry a water bottle with you during exercise and take small sips throughout, and keep hydrated after the session by drinking a couple of glasses within 1-2 hours following the session.
